Description

Debuting for the 1970 Corvette, the “LT-1” engine option was a thriller in Chevrolet’s sports car. Cranking out a stout 370 horsepower, the high-winding 350 cubic-inch powerhouse drew rave reviews from the car magazines of the day. Fortified with a solid-lifter, aggressive spec camshaft, this engine really came alive (and sounded fantastic) at higher rpm. As the LT-1 option cost nearly $500, it was considerably more expensive than the LS-5 454 option (at around $300). As such, an LT-1 C3 is a somewhat rare sight. On offer here is one of the nicest, most correct 1970 LT-1 Corvettes we’ve ever seen. This incredible find is part of a small, “best of the C3s” Corvette collection that was carefully curated by a knowledgeable Corvette enthusiast. This nearly all original example boasts its original Mulsanne Blue paint, original matching hardtop, original White conv top, original Black leather interior and original, numbers-matching powertrain. This car was ordered with five of the best options including that LT-1 “Turbo Fire” 350 V8, the auxiliary hardtop, white stripe tires, an AM/FM radio and the custom leather interior. Per NCRS, the GM official production date was 5-19-70. The Corvette also comes with a massive binder detailing the car’s comprehensive documentation. Flip through that binder and you’ll see that this Corvette has amassed many prestigious awards, including Bloomington Gold and NCRS Top Flight, that are like the Oscars and Grammys to Corvette fans. The original paint is still in amazing condition, with a nice even shine. The bumpers, grille and other bright trim are also in excellent condition. Although the Corvette now wears more modern Goodyear Eagle radials, era-correct Goodyear white letter bias-ply tires go with the car. Underneath, this is what we call a lasagna car, meaning it’s so clean we’d gladly eat pasta off the floor pans and frame rails. Inside, the original, optional “custom” interior (which included leather upholstery and deluxe, wood-tone accented door panels) looks like it could be from a well-kept 5 year old car, let alone a 50-year old classic. As such, the leather is free of tears and excess wear marks. The foam is still supportive as well, as we noticed when we settled into the car during our evaluation. The factory-issued console plaque proudly proclaims the high-output specs of this king of the 350s: 11:1 compression, 370 horsepower and 380 lbs-feet of torque. Speaking of that mighty 350, the engine compartment presents very well, with the correct components (including the smog controls) lending testament as to why this Corvette is so decorated with awards. All that power is sent through the original 4-speed transmission and on to the 3.55-geared Positraction rear end. All the important documentation that knowledgeable enthusiasts want to see is present with this car. As far as the accolades we spoke of earlier, a few highlights include various NCRS Top Flight awards, various Bloomington Gold awards, and selection as the 1995 Silver Salute artwork car (that artwork alone is valued at $25,000) that found the Corvette’s likeness featured on the cover of the Bloomington Gold program. Other notable documents include the original brochure, window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, owner’s manual, color chart, accessory brochure and sales contract. There are even pictures that show the LT-1 back when it was brand new sitting on the dealer’s lot, next to other new 1970 Chevrolets including a Malibu, a Biscayne and an Impala. For more information or to schedule time to see this illustrious LT-1 just give us a call at 603-627-5595. Please note that this car is off-site, so it can be seen by appointment only. Financing is offered through our approved lender, interesting trades are welcome and enclosed shipping can be arranged.
