1970 Chevrolet Chevelle

For many muscle car enthusiasts, the 1970 Chevelle SS checks all the boxes. The subtly bulging fenders and hood, semi-fastback roofline and simple but handsome grille and taillights just look so right. And with a variety of potent V8s available with outputs at their peak, these Chevelles made the right sounds and responded swiftly to a right foot. At the top of the mountain was the SS 454 that in LS6 form cranked out 450 hp. Here we have the next best thing to a six-figure-valued 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6. This extremely well-done, fully-restored-as-a-tribute example boasts a powertrain, consisting of a GM 454 crate engine matched to a four-speed automatic, that would likely outperform that icon of the first muscle car era. The body and underside of this Chevelle are rock solid and the no-expense-spared restoration saw the car refinished in era-correct Astro Blue with complementing white stripes and convertible top. A set of 15-inch American Racing 5-spoke wheels wearing BF Goodrich Radial T/As add the finishing touch to this head-turning boulevard bruiser. The original SS-style 14-inch factory Rally wheels wearing older Goodyear Eagle ST tires go with the car as well. Inside, the interior looks factory fresh and features bucket seats and center console along with factory rally gauges, power windows and AM/FM radio. Along with many other components, those crystal clear gauges are brand new. Everything from the convertible top (with a new, color-matching boot) down to the carpet is in amazing condition and the Bright Blue color looks fantastic with the Astro Blue/ White exterior color combination. Under the iconic striped hood there’s a GM Performance 454 crate motor that's rated at around 440 hp. Keep in mind this is a net output rating versus the gross output ratings that were used back in the day. In other words, if you converted its output rating to the old, pre-1972 gross rating, it would likely be well over 500 horses. All that power is sent through a four-speed automatic transmission with an adjustable torque converter lock-up setting, providing both ripping acceleration and relaxed, lower-rpm highway cruising.
